Imagine that you’re leaving on a month-long hike into the desert. What will you have to consider leaving behind? What might you miss the most? Consider asking God if it would be good to lay these (or other) things down for the season of Lent. Perhaps each morning you can remind yourself of the journey by praying a desert prayer--the very prayer that David prayed in the wilderness (Psalm 63:1):
"You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water."
